It worked! A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about keeping Jesus fresh in your mind beyond Christmas. I explained that one way is to read Christian books, which is what I do frequently. I prefer to read for hours instead of turning the television on. Yesterday on my way home from work I stopped by the library to pick up a book that I had placed on hold:
Prayers of a Stranger by Davis Bunn. A Christmas Journey.
Looking at the cover I thought, "oh, a Christmas book, not what I was hoping for but I'll read it because it is written by a Christian author." With the snow storming outside, I settled down for some good clean entertainment. I began to read, stopping to make dinner and do the dishes only. Five hours or so later I finished the book and my first thought was "Lord who should I pray for right now?"
It worked! This kind of entertainment, as I call it, lead me to Jesus. I was so moved by the prayer plot in this book that I wanted to emulate it and I did.
I had never read any books by this author before. Davis Bunn is now in my top choices for favorite authors simply because his writing lead me to Jesus in prayer. That my friends is the power of the Holy Spirit, the power of God!
